Skype for iPad – released and pulled (again)
I’ve been eagerly waiting for Skype to make full use of the iPad screen. The iPhone version works alright, but it doesn’t feel right. The iPad specific app is actually pretty cool, it offers cool avatar views of your contacts. What’s best is the video conference mode, and it even works on 3G networks. Apple’s FaceTime currently works only on WiFi.

App Gets Yanked
Now, get this. A few hours ago Skype Tweets the following message:

And sure enough, now when I go to the app store I cant find Skype for iPad anymore. And its not the first time Skype has done something like this. A few weeks ago it released a video on YouTube showcasing the upcoming app – only to remove it shortly after.
Shady Marketing?
So while reading more about the new app and it being pulled, I came across the following comment from a user on Cnet.
So what do you think? Is Skype inadvertently releasing apps and videos before their time, or is it part of a larger marketing ploy?

I’ve tried Skype of iPad and I love it. I deleted my other Skype on my iPad, because as you say… the new one looks a lot better.

Skype is very cool on iPad, but I hate when my iPad and my computer ring at the same time when I get a skype call. And then the iPad ringer doesnt shut off… argh!
