BlackBerry App World supports Windows (not iOS or Android)

I recently tried to access the BlackBerry App World on the advice of the RIM social media team. However, I was disappointed to find the following message render on my iPhone:

blackberry app world does not support iPhone/mac/android message

I understand that you cant download BB apps on non-supporting platforms, but that message makes RIM sound so out-dated and Microsoft centric (which is weird, because Nokia is the one in bed with Microsoft.)

With new things brewing up at RIM, we’re constantly fed with PlayBook buzz (such as 13 million DRM-free mp3s, possible support for Droid Apps, as well as video chat feature), yet the BB App World showcases a message reminiscent of the last decade?

If PlayBook is going to rival iPad, it must beat it on the “apple experience” and not just the feature set. This includes having a simple and consistent message on all channels.

I surprised when I first saw that message b/c App World has always worked fine on my iPad and Mac.

Here’s a little trick to get by that message (assuming you go there by clicking a link to check out an app): click continue browsing, it will take you to App World home page, go back to the original link that sent you there and it will work the second time

Hey Will, yeah I can continue browsing without any issue after that warning message and it saves as a cookie. If I visit the site after that, no such message appears unless I delete the cookie. Anyway its not a big deal, but its one more thing that BB can do to improve on the over all experience. Especially if they consider that people may want to switch over from iPad 1 to PlayBook instead of upgrading to iPad2 (which is what I’m hoping to do).

Yeah I always run into this on my iPad – can’t wait to get a PlayBook instead! 🙂
